Photography : Astronomy : Shadow of a Giant

A brisk sunrise heralded the end of a profitable night of observing at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona. The WYNN 0.9m is still open, with the 3.5m peaking out from behind it having already closed. The shadow of Kitt Peak stretches out beyond the mountain but not for long. The shadow looks triangular because perspective makes it appear like it's stretching to infinity, a vanishing point. Perspective is the same reason that railroad tracks seem like they converge and form a triangle at a distant point.
