Photography : Astronomy : The View from Gemini

What struck me was the variety in the colors of the mountains. The Atacama desert is the driest place on Earth, so there isn't much vegetation to add some color; however Chile has rich deposits of a variety of minerals. The Gemini South telescope shares Cerro Panchon with the SOAR 4m telescope. If you look closely and follow the road to distant mountain peak, you can see the Blanco 4m poking from the top of Cerro Tololo.
