Photography : Land & Sky: Brisket time A respectable gentleman sets some brisket roasting behind Vintage Winery, one of the wineries in Mesilla, NM. As a historical community locaed next to Las Cruces, Mesilla maintains a traditional appearance of adobe buildings and wooden fences. Public events are held in the Plaza outside the Basilica of San Albino. The square is surrounded by quaint shops selling pottery, jewelry, and chile (whose strength is not to be underestimated). Houses and stores are also draped with strings of mature, reddened, chili peppers as shown below. Traditionally used to preserve and store the chili for later use, these "ristras" are symbols of hospitality and welcome.
