Photography : Birds : A Tough Nut to Crack A long-tailed grackle peers at a pecan nut on a wet winter day at NMSU campus. There are a number of pecan trees on campus, and the grackles have a clever way to crack the shells: they carry the nuts to the top of a building and then drop them. While this might not be as clever as the crows in Japan, I think it's hilarious to hear the occasional crack of a nut being dropped.
