Photography : Birds : Bar none

This beauty is a Barred Owl, so named for the stripes or "bars" of brown and white on their feathers. This owl's name is Moon and she is an outreach animal from Nature's Nursery, a widlife rehabilitation and education facility. Owls can fluff and change how their face feathers lay, funneling sound to their ears better than humans can by cupping their hands. Also, their ears are at different heights, to better locate prey (not very good for wearing earrings, though).

I was particularly tickled to see a Barred Owl in person since I picked that specials as an animal companion to one of my D&D characters, Heather the Druid.
