Photography : Astronomy : The Milky Way and the Large Magellanic Cloud I have been in Chile three times to use telescopes, and each time the night sky amazes me. Astronomers like their telescopes in dark areas, away from light pollution, so of course there are lots of stars. Seeing the Milky Way as clear as can be and also seeing its satellite galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud --- now that's breath-taking! Thankfully, it was also picture-taking, too. This is the first night I ever took an extended night shot with my camera. This might not be a good idea, since every other time I take a picture in another location the sky won't be quite as amazing. You can see part of the Blanco telescope in the lower right. It's just possible that the faint blur above the Blanco's dome is the Small Magellanic Cloud --- three galaxies in one shot!
