I rarely put scales on my dragons. It could be that I am lazy and don't want to draw (and then color) every scale, but I also think the wealth of minute detail of the scales detracts from the smooth lines of the dragon as a whole. I like my dragons to be serpentine and smooth. I colored this little dragon with warm thoughts in mind. I also like coloring almost metallic-looking skin, because I can play with shiney areas and reflections.
